Testimonials from Students
Chris & Jackie, This is long overdue but I simply wanted to say THANK YOU. Lampwork beads have become an addiction...okay, maybe an obsession. I couldn't resist buying them ...still can't. I wanted to try making my own, BUT because of nerve injury to my arm I was uncertain if I could be successful. Beginning with my very first inquiry, you put my mind at ease. I remember day one of the Boro Intro Class thinking & saying: I can't possibly make beads I would want anyone to see. Chris, you assured me that I would make beads I was proud of by the end of the two days. While I doubted you ...I didn't argue....and you were absolutely right!! I feel privleged to call you my instructors & mentors. Your knowledge, patience and dedication to your students is unparalleled & truly refreshing. Even when returning to rent studio time you are always available to answer questions & offer advice. Your work is inspirational & your willingness to show us how you create different pieces is truly a gift. If I have any regrets its that you aren't next door so I can spend more time at the studio! See you both soon, Mindy Y Baldwinsville, NY

When I saw Chris and Jackie's work at a bead show and signed up for the 2 day beginning boro bead making class, I didn't know quite what to expect. The glass work at their booth was absolutely gorgeous. Could I ever even begin to make things this beautiful? Although I paint and have been involved with different creative outlets all my life, I've never done anything remotely like this. Fire and glass and beads, oh my! The first time I saw a lampwork bead I was enthralled and knew that "someday" I would just have to learn how to make these for myself. I could not have chosen 2 better people to be my teachers and guides for my first foray into the world of glass bead making. The experience, creativity and most of all, natural teaching ability that both Chris and Jackie bring to their classes is top rate. They teach with humor, patience and a real knack for knowing just when the student needs a little help. They are extremely sharing people and were as excited by my beads as I was. I feel like a sponge wanting to soak up everything they can teach and I can't wait to go back for more. Chris and Jackie, you guys are absolutely the best. Beads aside, I'm really glad I met you. Turning molten glass in ones hands two feet in front of ones face is a spectacular experience. In one sense it is a connection to the very creative forces of the universe. Think volcanoes set of paradoxes…..controlled yet surprising…..molten and frozen….the color of heated steel yet a virtual rainbow when cooled…it is demanding yet requires a relaxed focus….transparent, translucent, opaque….dense and tough… fragile and tentative…… It’s wonderful you’ve made such a user friendly environment at your studio for students of all levels of skills and knowledge regarding glass. As absolutely ignorant beginners we found your approach and facility very effective and are looking forward to more “torch” time. I wish we lived closer but once the snow goes away we’ll be back. Thanks again for such a though & enjoyable introduction to Glass.
At CNY Glass Studios, Chris and Jackie Rice have created an inpiring and welcoming enviroment for learning. They are natural, helpful, approachable, fun, and informative teachers. Art classes and workshops can sometimes feel intimidating and overwhelming, and this couldn't be farther from the case with Jackie and Chris's intimate sessions. As their student, I always feel comfortable working at my own pace and they are extremely helpful and encouraging, both teaching me the basics aand in helping me to feel ready to experiment at finding my own style and "voice" in glasswork. Chris and Jackie's passion for their work and their enthusiasm for flameworking are infectious and inspiring. I have now taken a few workshops and rented studio time at CNY Glass Studios, and I can't wait to go back for more --- their classe are as addictive as flameworking itself!! I just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed my two days with you. You guys are real professionals with a wonderful ability to teach and inform. Before I took your class I searched the web, talked to glass artists and researched the industry. Unfortunately, it is a "tightliped" industry with many artists unwilling to share their experience and knowledge. You were both amazingly open with your advice and assistance. I walked away from your class feeling ready and able to start on the torch immediately. You guys took the time to assist with all my start up needs. You shared tips on creating, color, assembly and so much more. You helped order all components needed for my own success. Your wealth of knowledge and willingness to share has motivated me to create my own glass studio. I know I could not have done it without you guys. Thank you for checking on my progress periodically. It is always a pleasure to hear from you. It nice to know I can still call you with any questions or assistance I may need. Not only are you both amazing artist and true professionals, but you are among the kindest individuals I have ever met. There are so few people who leave such wonderful impressions in lives. You are among those few. Thank you again for an amazing experience and a new found love in this art. I wish you both the best and I hope our paths will cross again soon. Warmest Regards, Jeana S. I can¢t possibly say enough good things about taking classes with Chris and Jackie. They are both amazingly talented artists and genuinely nice people. From the minute I set foot into the studio for my first class (almost an hour late because I got lost!) they made me feel welcome and at ease. Chris told me he loves the see the expression on the faces of his students when they master a technique, or light up the torch for the first time. They truly have a passion for glass, and want to share that passion with others. I look forward to going back to CNY Glass for more classes, and to spend more time getting to know these two wonderful people. Staci K.Cortland, NY
The first day I spent with you two, I soaked up this confidence and tried new and old things with a new excitement! I still think of you both often and am still amazed at the spectrum of work you both bring to the table. It is cool how you both hold different skills and can compliment each other on a collaboration instead of competing ( I hope that makes sense) I have to also mention how grateful I am for the class and how you both teach without holding back, the whole time was action-packed with every trick in the book. I make mention of you both when I credit all my marble skills, and with how I now make mandrel bead topped pendants!!! THANK YOU JACKIE!! ( it is the Only way!) and THANK YOU CHRIS!! You both deserve so much! Oh yeah! One more thing is that you are both truly nice people and it was refreshing to meet such ambitious people! So I close with a thank you thank you thank you Until we meet again! Sincerely, Christina Cody Eugene, Oregon
This class was everything we had hoped for and more, we highly recommend this class for anyone wanting to further their knowledge in glass art skills. The techniques that we learned were awesome and the knowledge that we walked away with will take us to a new level of understanding glass and the different ways in which we can achieve our goals that we have set for ourselves. It was fun and enjoyable. Chris and Jackie are a great inspiration to us and very knowledgeable in glass art. Every question that we had they answered, with a demo or a very through discussion. I loved it…every minute! Chris and Jacquelyn are wonderful, easy going, patient and extremely helpful. They are very knowledgeable about colors, techniques, hints and short cuts, tools and studio setup too! Chris was very flexible in his teaching style and allowed me to go where my interest was. I was very pleased with and proud of (J) the many beads that I produced in the two day class…more so than any other class I have taken! I continue to get compliments on these and others that I have made on my own since, using the knowledge and techniques gained in this class. I really valued this opportunity and plan to return. The great bonus is that I now have two good friends. Well worth the money! Cheers! Heather Hennigan Syracuse, NY
I’ve always been a glass Marble Collector on and off since I was a kid for somehow a sphere of glass holds within, a unique power and delightful force all its’ own, not to mention the sheer beauty of these orbs. Don’t believe me, just pick one up and see for yourself! My first Marble making class was hosted by Internationally known Artist, Christopher ‘Pan’ Rice. The class was held at Technolux, Inc., an Advanced Neon and Lighting Products Company, Brooklyn, N.Y. It was a wonderful class that first focused on the basic techniques of making a clear glass Marble and making it round, one of the toughest steps of many in creating with this medium. Then we moved on to other techniques and styles of Marbles, including how to make them with tubing as well a rod. Finally, after all these years, I knew how to make a Marble, not quite like Chris’s masterpieces, nevertheless round. Chris Rice is one of the most knowledgeable and most creative glass Artists known, not only in creating Contemporary Marbles, but along with his wonderful and also very creative and artistic wife Jacquelyn, they create some of the most beautiful, one-of-a-kind glass Sculptures, Beads, and Goblets as well. I know this, simply because I now work alongside Chris and many other top glass Artist’s around the country, as I’ve turned my Marble making knowledge into an ‘Artistic Marketing and Consulting Company’, Glass Chef Studio, Ltd., that assists glass Artists in creating Marketing Campaigns that showcase, as well as deliver their beautiful glass artwork to the otherwise, unaware public.
